Luckiamute Watershed Council

345 N MONMOUTH AVE WOU
MONMOUTH, OR  97631   luckiamute.watershedcouncils.net

Coordinator:  Nicole Duplaix nicole.duplaix@oregonstate.edu

The Council meets the second Thursday of each month at 7pm at the Volunteer Hall in Monmouth.

The Luckiamute River Log Placement Project placed 171 large trees by helicopter in a 2.6-mile reach of the river to create structural complexity. This Council project benefits an endangered terrestrial habitat as well as an endangered fish species.  The Council incorporated an educational component into the project by coordinating with the local high school biology teacher, who designed a term project around the wood placement project.  Salmon spawning and rearing habitat is enhanced by the creation of  42 log structures. Juvenile fish and endangered amphibians were observed during a 2006 monitoring visit.
