One goal of the Middle Fork Willamette Watershed Council is to create awareness of watershed function and to improve land stewardship among residents in the watershed. In 2007, the Council is excited to launch a new Watershed Education Program for rural schools in the Middle Fork Willamette watershed. Together with Council partners US Forest Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, the Bureau of Land Management, Cities of Lowell and Oakridge, and Lundy Elementary, we worked to develop an education program that incorporates a natural resources curriculum which meets State standards, teachers' and Council needs. The program highlights local ecological considerations and provides an integrated classroom and outdoor experience for students and adult volunteers. The Council received funding from local partners to hire a Watershed Educator to implement this new program.
