Working with the Wheeler Soil & Water Conservation District, the Mid-John Day Watershed Council continued work to open up fish passage along important tributaries in the watershed. Partnership projects included replacing five problematic culverts and two irrigation dam structures with fish-friendly diversions; irrigation efficiency realized on two ranches by replacing flood irrigation with pipe and sprinkler systems; approximately 535 acres of juniper removed; and 14 spring and water developments installed. The Council did a final public review of the Butte Creek Watershed Assessment and was also involved in the Wheeler County Medusahead Working Group by helping to host four meetings that provided education, organization and coordination of landowner projects.
