The Salmon Drift Watershed Council is beginning the sixth year of water quality monitoring in North Lincoln County. They have raised funds to partner with a consortium of other local nonprofits to establish a bacteria monitoring laboratory. As a result of the monitoring, they have been able to identify planting project needs and get to know local landowners. Monitoring helped identify an abandoned dam that was causing passage and thermal problems for the local native coho salmon run. The monitoring information has been provided to many agencies. It has proved useful to water allocation issues and to local land acquisition priorities. The Council was pleased that their last report was listed on the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board web page.
